All BitLightning Solid State Drives (SSDs) come with a standard manufacturer three-year limited warranty. Two-year extended limited warranty coverage options for BitLightning SSDs, M.2 and/or PCIe drives are available, extending the standard limited warranty from three (3) years to five (5) years total. This warranty policy is Trade Act Agreement (TAA) Compliant, and is only available for BitLightning brand SSD, M.2 and/or PCIe Solid State Drives.

BitLightning SSD Overview, Features & Benefits
A Solid State (hard-disk) Drive (SSD) can be the perfect replacement solution for your old, tired and basically worn-out spindle-based hard-disk drive. It is an excellent choice in a new system, external data storage such as a NAS or DAS storage device as well. Spindle-based hard disk drives (HDDs) have about a five-year lifespan if used at the consumer electronics level; some last longer, but that is typically proportional to the usage factor and the plated-media coating on the disk platter(s). If used in an office or production (16x7 or 24x7) setting, then the lifespan is about three-years, again proportional with usage. Somewhat like a lightbulb, a spindle-based hard disk drive has "X" numbers of hours of operation before failure occurs. An SDD vs. a spindle-based hard-disk drive is like comparing a 1961 VW "Bug" with "Flower-Power" written on the side vs. a brand-new Corvette. Replacing an SSD where your hard-disk drive currently resides is not a difficult task. The primary concern is that ALL of your software, data files, pictures, software licenses, etc., transfer without loss. This "is" the primary objective. Any authorized and reputable computer technician should be able to do this "without loss" using the appropriate tools. Many of our clients have told us they did it themselves and without any issues. Of course, before “anything” happens, you should perform a very comprehensive back-up of your system and verify it prior to the exchange. Another sound method is to make your new SSD the primary source drive and the older HDD your secondary drive and transfer files. Once all files and desired items have transferred, then remove the older HDD. Also, a very inexpensive anti-static wrist strap must be worn to protect both drives from a potential static shock damage with handling. An unfortunate static discharge directly on the drive could produce unrecoverable results. Anti-Static wrist straps can be generally purchased online for ten dollars.
Why is an SSD so much Faster than a Traditional Drive?
Unlike an electro-mechanical spindle-based hard-disk drive, an SSD has no moving parts. It features an all solid-state controller, flash memory and virtually zero spin-up or seek times. Super-low operating and standby power consumption make BitLightning SSDs “Very Green” and super energy efficient. Power requirements are significantly reduced over a typical spindle-based hard-disk drive. Another feature and benefit is the zero rotational latency, which equates to ultra-fast performance, immediate data storage access and sustained high-speed data transfers such as video editing would require or large database sorting and retrievals. Improved resistance to shock and vibration with no volatile memory elements simply means high reliability and good long-term data storage. Predictable and manageable built-in failure modes reduce I.T. overall maintenance and general costs. BitLightning SSDs are noise and vibration free, have virtually no heat emissions and are far lighter than spindle based hard-disk drive counterparts. A robust Error Check Correction (ECC) algorithm and R.A.I.S.E.™ (Redundant Array of Independent Silicon Elements) technology protects the stored data and files. Efficient bad block management and reduced write amplification further bolster endurance. Drive health is monitored using an SSD-specific set of S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) attributes. The combination of these techniques provides data protection unrivaled in the storage industry.
The Hard and Cold Facts about Backups
Your system, data files, photo images, software, and software licenses are only as good as your last backup. A copy of your system and data backup files should be kept in a secure place and password protected. All of this is to say, if you keep your data backups right next to your computer, then in the event of a fire… what was the purpose? Another reason to keep the backups elsewhere is theft. So, backup on a very regular basis, and only backup as often as the amount of data you can afford or wish to lose. I have seen small businesses fail because they lost years worth of client, policy and data files. I have seen mothers cry their eyes out because they lost year’s worth of family photos. Each one of us use a computer in various ways for various purposes. Keeping a couple of historical versions, as well as an end-of-year backup is a very prudent task to perform, and let's be honest, backing up your data has never been easier or less expensive to do. Data can take years to accumulate, such a family photos, data files, client invoices, letters, etc. In the event of theft, fire or just plain failure a good data backup and a new system will go well together.

SSD Performance will not degrade over the lifespan of the drive. TRIM support (O/S support required) is an Advanced Technology Attachment (ATA) command that enables an operating system to inform a NAND flash solid-state drive which data blocks it can erase, because they are no longer in use. The use of TRIM can improve the performance of writing data to SSDs and contribute to longer SSD lifespans. Ultra-effecient Block Management and Wear Leveling.
